New Year, New Cover Stars

At the beginning of this week I received copies of the two magazines I currently subscribe to through my letterbox - Vogue and Elle - I say through my letterbox because this month they actually fit....oh how I hate it when fashion magazines downsize! My favourite thing about receiving a magazine through the post is the surprise of opening it up to reveal who's on the cover; this month, for the first issue of the new year, Vogue chose Florence Welch and Elle decided upon Lady Gaga. I guess it makes sense to use such powerful female role models for such important fashion issues.

Shot by Mario Testino and styled by Lucinda Chambers, pop princess Florence Welch looks striking in a stunning, sophisticated Chloé dress. As the woman who made red hair the sexiest trend of today, she truly is an inspiration in both fashion and attitude.

Wearing masks for both the subscribers and news stand covers, Lady Gaga is photographed by Matt Irwin for the new year! Styled by Nicola Formichetti, Gaga wears Simone Rocha for the standard issue and Alexander McQueen for the subscribers special cover. Weird, wonderful and talented, again, Gaga is an excellent role model for women!

New year, new cover stars. The start of a new year can be the perfect time to reinvent oneself if there are things that aren't going to plan in life. I think that both of these style icons represent strong and talented women who we can look up to and realise that with enough hard work and perseverance, we can all achieve our goals :)
